EFCC Arrests ‘Wanted’ Subsidy Fraud Suspect, Seun Ogunbambo

MR. HABILA THECK TRIAL AT THE LAGOS HIGH COURT, IKEJA LAGOS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today in Lagos arrested fuel subsidy fraud suspect, Mr. Seun Ogunbambo, who was recently declared wanted for failing to appear for trial.
Mr. Ogunbambo was picked up at the premises of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja where he appeared in Justice Olabisi Akinlade’s court in connection with another matter regarding a N1.2billion bank loan fraud.
Mr. Ogunbambo and his co-defendant, Mr. Habilla Theck, had challenged the EFCC declaration, insisting there was no basis for it.  Their lawyer, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede, said the duo had secured a reversal of the warrant Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo granted the EFCC to pick them up for not being available in court for their trial on June 25, 2013.
Saharareporters also learned that Mr. Ogunbambo had afterwards raced to a Federal High Court to obtain an order asking for maintenance of the status quo until Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo decided otherwise.
During an argument between Mr. Ogunbambo and the EFCC at the court premises in Lagos today, Mr. Ogunbambo allegedly presented warrants he obtained to maintain the status quo until next trial date before Justice Onigbanjo, but the EFCC operatives declined to honor them.
Counsel to the EFCC, Mr. Francis Usani, had earlier said it was of no concern to the commission that the suspect later obtained another order in its absence.
“We have court’s warrant to pick them up and it is not possible for the judge to reverse same in our absence. We have no knowledge of that,” he declared.
It is currently presumed that Mr. Ogunbambo may be kept at the EFCC detention until next Monday, September 16, when his case will normally resume before Justice Onigbanjo, with special focus on the controversial warrant.
