Who does not like a good thing? Besides, their wives help them in their ministries and since they know that they have good looking wives as partners, it makes them focus on their calling rather than continue hunting for other women,” he said. The Violence is Relentless" in Bangui

Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, has been convulsed by violence for weeks, but most of the city’s hospitals are no longer functioning. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) runs the only trauma unit in the city, at Community Hospital, where staff have treated more than 800 patients—most with bullet or knife wounds—since fighting broke out in early December. Here, project coordinator Jessie Gaffric, who manages MSF’s operations at Community, describes the situation: “Last November, we had already identified a significant need for surgical care and had begun working [at Community] on December 2. No one suspected then that the situation would explode three days later. “That day, we received 120 wounded patients and another 60 the following day. We were submerged. We had to manage the situation under extremely difficult conditions. It was chaos. Because the hospital did not have enough room, we set up tents next to the building to house patients who needed post-operative care. Over time and as the emergency continued, we improved the patient pathway, management of the emergency department and the quality of care.” “On January 11, following the resignation of former president Mr. Djotodia, we received more than fifty patients referred by other MSF health centers located in Bangui or in IDP camps in the town. “One man came by ambulance. He had been shot in the foot and tried to treat his injury himself. The infection was so severe that his foot had to be amputated. Another had had a motorcycle accident. A third had knife wounds. Patients stream in every day and every case is different. On average, 20 wounded people come to the hospital every day, with the flow peaking on certain days. “Our primary challenges have to do with insecurity and time management, specifically because we must leave the hospital no later 6 pm, when curfew begins. Nine expatriates and approximately 50 Central African staff work in this facility. Of those, some are living in the displaced persons camps. They cannot come to work when fighting occurs or must even stay and sleep in the hospital. What is also striking is the severity of the wounds, whether from a knife or machete. They attest to the level of violence and its relentlessness.” MSF has managed both of the Community Hospital’s two operating rooms until now. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recently took over one of them. Ultimately, the ICRC is expected to assume responsibility for the entire surgical department and MSF is preparing to work in another hospital in the city. - See more at: http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/news/article.cfm?id=7268&cat=voice-from-the-field#sthash.AnebyEHC.dpuf

The hum of conversation was said to have immediately gone still and later pick up as Okonjo moved on like the incident was the most normal of things. Amongst those on the circle of the table the incident transpired were Oba Otudeko, Stella Okoli, Senator Eyinaya Abaribe, Engr. Charles Ambaowei, Chief Garry Igariwey, Amb George Obiozor, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Prof Anya O. Opposition Mount Over Lagos Finance Commissioner, Ayo Gbeleyi's Guber Ambition.

The gubernatorial ambition of Lagos state, Finance Commissioner- Mr Ayo Gbeleyi has run into a bit of brickwall. And this is despite reportedly securing unofficial backing from party leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the strength of religion to be the candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Gbeleyi is a christian, while both Tinubu and his successor, incumbent Babatunde Fashola are muslims. Strangely growing opposition against is intense right under Gbeleyi's watch. Contractors with the state government are reportedly pooling resources together to scuttle his emergence. Same for officers of the Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs). Their grouse? They claim never to have had it this tough. The two grounds alleged the Finance commissioner of antics that bother on underhand dealing and hinders free flow of their operations. They are currently working underground to form a focal point that will provide veritable means to prosecute common interest - scuttle Gbeleyi's guber ambition. While the contractors and MDA staffers are working underground, opposition hit in the public via another quarter. Lagos youths operating under the emblem 'Awori Youths United, (AYU)' issued a statement outrightly rejecting the gubernatorial hopeful. In a statement signed by National President, Hakeem Salako the association strongly condemn moves to make Gbeleyi the next governor of the state. The release reads in part '"We are not oblivious of moves to adopt Ayo Gbeleyi as the candidate for the next governorship election in Lagos State. We are not happy about this and we condemn it totally' The group further doubted the sincerity of those who are clamouring for the adoption of Gbeleyi as APC's candidate in the state maintaining ' It is only a transparent primary election that can determine a popular candidate for that post and if this is not done, the newly formed APC that is enjoying the sympathy of all and expected to fight for the cause of the common man may lose its credibility.' The group advocate that 'the party echelon quash any plan to adopt Gbeleyi and organise a free and fair primary election for candidates who are truly of Lagos origin'.

How and Why You should Care for your Hands

Ok, lets cut the chase! This is for you especially if you are in your 20′s or 30′s. If you don’t want to show your age in 10-15 years, you’ve got to take care of your hands. Most of us focus on our faces and necks in terms of anti-aging but pleeeease don’t forget the hands! If you are looking at your hands right now and thinking, “they look fine to me,” trust me, it sneaks up on you. Wrinkles…discoloration…blah blah blah. However, if you’ve just hit 40, there’s still time to do some good. Sometime ago, I read the story of a lady who went out with her husband. While at a gathering, she met a very attractive lady who looked no older than 20. She was surprised to learn that the lady was actually 35. Truly amazed, she asked her husband how old he thought she was and he guessed correctly. When she asked him how he knew, he replied, ‘her hands’. I don’t know about you, but I sure wouldn’t want my hands to give me away. The rules for caring for hands are the same for caring for any skin. However, because our hands are so exposed to the harshest things in our environment, they need some extra protection. 1. Watch out for toxins in your dish soap and hand soap or basically anything with dyes, synthetic fragrance, or anti-bacterial chemicals. Moisturize immediately after doing the dishes and if possible take a travel size bottle of a gentle moisturizing hand wash in case you need to wash your hands when you’re away from home. Use sunscreen, too, if you can’t avoid the sun. A bit of what you use on your face works, or maybe a higher SPF if you need it. 2.Use a nice, thick body butter throughout the day and while you are at it, massage some into your cuticles and nails, too. Shea-butter and pomegranate oil are fantastic. 3. Do a little nighttime ritual of massaging oils/butters on both hands and feet before you get into bed. Some aromatherapy can be incorporated here. Putting product on right before going to bed lets it sit for a good long while and can be very valuable on its own. You see, that’s not so hard. If you prefer to use the traditional hand cream, you can put in a few drops of oil or melted shea butter. I too am just getting the hang of it. You can thank me later.

WICKEDNESS: HIV Positive Student Deliberately Infects More than 30 People [Photo]

life Prosecutors tell News 4 they now know more than 30 people could have gotten HIV from a former student at Lindenwood University who allegedly knew he had the deadly disease. He is accused of knowingly giving it to others. In October, Michael Johnson, 22, was charged with exposing sexual partners to HIV. Police later discovered multiple videos of Johnson having unprotected sex. They believe those partners were unaware Johnson was HIV positive and that they were being videotaped. The startling details were revealed after hidden camera sex tapes were uncovered, according to prosecutors. “On that laptop were 32 videos engaged in sexual acts with Mr. Johnson,” said Tim Lohmar, St. Charles County prosecutor. Lohmar said Johnson can be seen with 31 unidentified people in videos taken over four months. Most of the videos were shot on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles. Johnson has already been charged with five counts of knowingly transmitting the disease. “It’s safe to safe that numerous of those videos were taken inside his dorm room; we know that because we recognize the furniture,” Lohmar said most of victims not only likely had no idea they were being video-taped; they were clueless that Johnson had HIV. That’s why Lohmar wants any potential victims to come forward immediately. It’s a matter not only of their individual safety but public safety as well. Lindenwood University school officials tell News 4 they will assist law enforcement with identifying victims. They say they had no idea the videos existed until just a few days ago. “I think it’s really scary, thinking someone like that is on campus, not thinking about others,” said Student Jenny Counts. Students are shaken up by this latest news, but glad that Johnson is still behind bars for now. If convicted of knowingly transmitting HIV, he could get up to in prison.

"Today's Nollywood is in a disgraceful state;it's sickening"- Clarion Chukwura

Veteran actress & mother of star director Clarence Peters spoke to Vanguard about her disappointment with today's Nollywood. "It hasn’t improved at all. It is now a proverbial ‘ state’ that makes one to weep. Everything has fallen to a disgraceful state. No standards are left. I was on a location in Enugu last month and the production manager was insulting the director of photographer. I was shocked. The producer and the director were shouting at each other. I could not imagine it. The artistic director would just walk away and actors are not directed on what to do. Any green horn could hit the set and believe that she could sleep her way to the top. She is pretty and sleeps with the Executive Producer. It’s just sickening. And they say to you, this movie is meant for the market and the cinema. It is not for film festival, just do it anyhow because this is for inside the market. That goes to show there are no standards. It is pathetic.

How Prophets From The Chosen Church Embarrassed Themselves After Boasting Of Raising The Dead But Failed

We don’t tell God what to do. He does what He wants to, and what pleases Him at the right time. Some prophets from The Chosen Church in Imo State have embarrassed themselves after claiming they could raise a man who died a month ago in Burkina Faso, and was brought to his home town, Imo State for burial. The prophets told the community leaders that they want permission to exhume his corpse so that the miracle could happen. The elders warned them and even said they shouldn’t worry to raise him. They refused and insisted it was not the right time for him to have died. His aunt, a member of The Chosen Church also joined in begging the elders and insisted they should let them perform the miracle. The elders accepted on one condition that the police will be involved, and if they fail to raise him, they will be arrested because it is a taboo in their land. The D-day came, and hour after hour, nothing happened till 6pm of that day, after they said the man will rise at exactly 12 noon. My people, when the police men couldn't bear it any more, they had to arrest them and took them to their station, and the people of Imo are patiently waiting for the outcome. Continue after the cut... Here is how Victoria Ohaeri narrated it on her blog; A young man, from Umuezii community died in Burkina Faso in November last year under mysterious circumstances. A month after, his sealed body was brought back to Nigeria and was buried the same day in his family compound in Umuezii, Nguru Mbaise, Imo State. Trouble started when prophets and seers of the Chosen Church of God prophesied that the dead-and-buried young man was still alive (six feet beneath the earth) as his soul has persistently approached them via telephone calls and other spiritual means, requesting immediate exhumation. His elder sister, who is a member of the Chosen Church, communicated this prophecy to the entire family, leading to a family resolution insisting on the “divinely ordered” exhumation. The decision to exhume the dead body did not go down well with the community as such act was considered an abomination both under the native tradition and under the prevailing Catholic norms deeply established within the community. All entreaties to the family made by the traditional ruler and parish priest of the St. Luke Catholic Church, Umuezii to refrain from such religious charade fell on deaf ears. It got to a point that the deceased family representatives openly accused the church and community leaders of killing their late brother, and preventing his “god-ordained” resurrection. As a lasting solution to the impasse, the traditional ruler of the community invited the Chosen Church seers and prophets to sign an agreement of performance failing which they will be handed over to the police authorities for prosecution. The second condition was that the miracle will be performed in full public glare and in the presence of other independent witnesses. Proudly beating their chests and boasting deafeningly about their “majestic powers”, the seers and prophets signed the agreement and a date was mutually agreed for the resurrection miracle. On the appointed day, a horde of prayer warriors, choristers, singers, speaking-in-tongue experts, seers, prophets and the like stormed the village as early as 6 a.m. The traditional ruler also invited the police, radio commentators, reporters and correspondents from local newspapers and the state-owned Imo Broadcasting Corporation. Chosen Church of God seers boastfully started with an early morning prophecy that the dead young man will “resurrect” by 12 noon prompt. The digging up of the grave followed immediately until the body was exhumed. Then the singing, violent shaking, screaming, cursing, loud yelling and other theatrical displays in the name of deliverance prayers ensued while the large crowd of keen onlookers watched with deep interest. From 6.a.m till 12 noon, there was no sign that the young man was preparing to wake let alone resurrect. Seeing that the 12 noon deadline had passed, the seers quickly issued another prophecy shifting the hour of resurrection to 3.p.m. By this time, the prayer and singing sessions became even more intense and violent. 3 p.m came and went. No sign of life. The Chosen Church prophets again, quickly handed down another prophecy declaring 6.p.m as the divine resurrection hour. 6.p.m also went by, and the dead man remained still, lifeless and unresurrected till this day! Understandably impatient and angry after the 6p.m deadline, the policemen on standby arrested all the prophets, dancers, singers, clappers and everybody that accompanied them to the community. But before then, the Chosen Church prophets had forwarded messages to their head office requesting for spiritual reinforcement. Undeterred by the arrest of their team members, an additional team that arrived around 6 p.m continued with the prayer sessions even more aggressively and vociferously. They prayed and sang all through the night till the following morning. Still, no sign of resurrection! The police officers, who had then totally run out of patience, arrested the remaining Chosen Church members, and everyone connected to the resurrection miracle including the deceased’s family representatives. Some of the arrested Chosen Church members are currently on bail, while a lot more are still in custody till date. The dead body was deposited at the morgue at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, as exhibit, pending further police investigations and prosecution of the false prophets. I was present at the New Year church service held at St Lukes Catholic Church, Umuezii, Mbaise where the parish priest’s sermon harped on the infiltration of false prophets into the Christendom, warning parishioners to be wary of them. He then invited the members of the deceased family to tender an unreserved apology to the community for the abominable acts they committed. (PICTURED ABOVE) The deceased’s elder sister tendered what seemed like a half-hearted apology on the family’s behalf. What happened in Imo State is reminiscent of the stories that feature on Nkan ‘Nbe, a popular Yoruba TV Program that features latter-day mystical occurrences. The Imo incident provides a compelling and cogent rationale for the effective regulation of the nefarious activities of churches whose stock in trade is to constitute public nuisance and to deceive and hypnotize the gullible. As a direct result of this incident, some Mbaise communities have proscribed the activities of Pentecostal churches in their localities. All eyes are on the Imo State Police Command to see how they would handle this issue, and ensure that measures are put in place to deter future sinister activities perpetrated under the banner of religion.

21-Year Old Nigerian Girl Who Was Attacked With Acid In London Was 'Attacked' By Her Friend

A jealous university student threw sulphuric acid over her friend in an attack inspired by the horrific assault on Katie Piper, a court today heard. Mary Konye, 21, disguised herself in an Islamic veil showing only her eyes, and followed Naomi Oni home in East London before allegedly dousing her in the corrosive acid. Ms Oni, 21, who worked at Victoria’s Secret lingerie shop, suffered horrific burns on her face and chest, lost her hair and eyelashes and was left scarred for life in the alleged attack on December 30 2012. Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that Konye, who was studying business and finance at Hertfordshire University, had been close friends with Ms Oni since secondary school. But she was envious of the shop worker’s good looks, and the pair had rowed in the past leading Konye to attack her with acid previously, it is alleged. Konye knew Ms Oni had been deeply 'moved' by Katie Piper, a model and TV presenter who was badly scarred and left blind in one eye after she was attacked with acid in an ambush arranged by her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch. Knowing this, Konye decided to launch the copycat attack, jurors were told. The court heard Ms Oni left work at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, East London, at around 11.30pm with several colleagues. But she was oblivious to the fact she was being closely followed by Konye wearing a full niqab, a hooded black coat, gloves and a grey bag, jurors heard. CCTV showed the university student had 'lingered waiting to see the victim' at Stratford and 'tailed' her home always making sure to keep a few steps behind her, the court heard. On the phone to her boyfriend throughout the journey, she stopped off at takeaway to pick up some food and got the 368 bus to her house. Unaware she was being followed, she got off the bus at Lodge Avenue, a few hundred yards away from her house. But she suddenly became aware of a presence behind her and spun around to see someone in a niqab who lobbed a glass of acid at her. Gareth Patterson, prosecuting, told jurors that Konye had threatened to attack Ms Oni with acid on another occasion after the pair rowed. He said: 'Naomi will tell you about her friendship with the defendant. 'In particular she will tell you how in the past they had an up and down relationship and how the defendant had admitted to her that on one occasion in anger she threatened to throw acid at Naomi. 'There was a reason why the defendant would have chosen to make such an unusual sort of threat. 'In the past the two of them had discussed a young woman called Katie Piper. 'She was a woman who had acid thrown at her and that attack had been reported in the media. 'Naomi and the defendant had discussed this and it appears that the defendant knew that Naomi had been particularly moved by Katie Piper’s ordeal. 'Naomi stated that she and the defendant had fallen out in the past and says that there was an occasion during a row when she called the defendant ugly. 'She says that they were later back on speaking terms and importantly, that the defendant said to her that she (the defendant) had been so angry at the time that she had said to someone else, a friend of the defendant’s called Kamilah Andrews, that she (the defendant) wanted to throw acid at Naomi. 'Naomi believed that the defendant had realised just how upset she had been by Katie Piper’s horrible ordeal.' Mr Patterson said: 'She could not see the face of the person, just the light-brown coloured skin around the eyes. 'She believed it was a female. The woman was staring at her. 'All of a sudden Naomi felt a liquid being thrown into her face. She screamed and immediately felt her face burning. 'She could smell her skin and hair burning. She immediately ran home. 'Naomi’s boyfriend Ato Owede was still on the phone with her at the time of the attack. He describes how he was chatting with her when suddenly he heard his girlfriend scream.' The liquid immediately burnt through her skin and clothes and left her face blistered. Screaming and shouting 'acid' she ran to her house in Dagenham and desperately tried to wash the harmful liquid off before being rushed to Broomfield Hospital for specialist treatment for her burns. Her house was packed with relatives who were staying for the Christmas and New Year holiday and frantically tried to help the young shop worker wash the acid off. The skin on her face and part of her neck has turned white and peeled off, and there was also burning to her nose, cheeks and chin, right wrist, hand, stomach and left thigh. She had to spend a month in hospital undergoing intensive treatment for her injuries. Specialist cops who deal with chemical spills tested the clothes and a pool of water at Ms Oni’s home. They found that her burnt out clothes and the pool of water all had a ph level of 1 - the most acidic. Her cardigan had 'melted, producing a black tar-like material' and had a 'pronounced acrid smell'. They believe she was doused with sulphuric acid, which is used in the chemical industry and found in batteries and drain cleaners. Konye, who was arrested on February 22 last year, denied carrying out the attack or ever threatening to throw acid at Naomi. Mr Patterson said: 'She described the victim as being very attractive and said she believed the victim had wanted to work in make-up. 'She said they had had quite a few fallings out, including one very big one, however she said she did not remember ever saying she was going to attack Naomi with acid. 'She denied being in any way jealous of the victim’s looks.' He added: 'She agreed that she and the victim had previously spoken about the acid attack on Katie Piper.' But she denied carrying out the attack or knowing who did it. Jurors were told there is mobile phone evidence placing Konye on the same bus as Ms Oni. Wearing her long hair down and a purple top and black cardigan, Konye, of Canning Town, East London, sat in the dock passively and repeatedly stared at the floor during the hearing. She denies throwing or casting a corrosive fluid with intent to burn, maim, disfigure, disable or do grievous bodily harm.
