Ibadan poly arrests suspected cultist with gun

The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State said it arrested a suspected cultist on Monday. The suspect, whose name was given as Harry Okereke, was allegedly arrested at the school gate with a gun. A statement by the institution’s Registrar, Hezekiah Fehintola, explained that the school authority believed that Okereke had a sinister motive for his visit to the school. He added that the 22-year-old was not only arrested by the school security operatives with a gun, he was also nabbed with live cartridges. The statement read in part, “The 22-year-old suspect claimed to be from Delta State and a student of a higher institution in Ibadan.“He claimed to have visited Ibadan Poly to see a friend called Pumasi. Members of staff, students and the entire community in the school are hereby advised to be security conscious.”The institution said the suspect had been handed over to the police.The Public Relations Officer of the state command, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, was not available to confirm the arrest.However, an officer who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said Okereke had been taken to the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad office.
