Contrary to reports making the rounds that a new Ooni has been
selected, the Giesi Ruling House of Ife has dismissed all such reports, calling
them untrue.
The house shot down the allegations at a press briefing in Osogbo on
Thursday, September 10.
Prince Adelowo
Ogunleye, secretary of the house, reiterated the state of lawfulness within the
Giesi household during the briefing, even as he debunked claims linking the
them with the false reports currently being circulated.
“[The] Giesi Ruling House is a law abiding one and we want to make it
public that we have not submitted names of any of the contestants to the
kingmakers.
“We have not received any letter of invitation from the government that
we should submit contestants’
names to the kingmakers,” Ogunleye said.
According to The Punch, the elders in the family are yet to select any
contestant for the throne. The report also says various other members of the
family are still keen on becoming the new Ooni, hence the need to disregard
false allegations saying the family had sold its right to the throne for some
amount of money.
The family has dared anyone making such accusations to bring forth proof and
substantiate claims they had sold their right to the throne for N5million, with
Ogunleye concluding that the families plotting to become Ooni, even though
through unlawful means, were the ones spreading falsehood on the matter.
Earlier, we reported
proceedings for the new Ooni to begin shortly,
even as the battle for the throne had taken a new dimension with
a member of the Giesi family alleging a threat to
his life.
