That Rocked Nigeria In Early 2000s (2)

This week, we do a follow up of the last week’s list with more jams from when Hiphop music was brewing up in Nigeria to what we celebrate today.
And to those that were only exposed to modern day heavy churn out of songs, worry less we’ve got you covered with this incredible list of old but hits.
2Face Idibia: African Queen

It will interest you to know that this song has passed a decade since its release, and it still sounds so fresh whenever it is played. It was the biggest hit out of Africa then and it earned 2Baba a lot of awards and international recognition. African Queen was classic and will go down as one of 2Face’s best tracks.

Eedris Abdul Kareem: Oko Asewo
Eedris Abdul Kareem was able to make name for himself after the Remedies split with evergreen hits like “Oko Asewo” “Jaga Jaga” and many other lovely songs. Eedris got international recognition with his controversy and his famous tango with former president, Olusegun Obasanjo was epic. Despite the controversies, Oko Asewo is a hit and it will remain a hit.


Paul and Peter Okoye: Sinorita
Sinorita launched the duo of Peter and Paul Okoye popularly known as P-Square to Nigerian music scene, the love song was cool and the video was one of the coolest back in the days with the youthful twin brothers demonstrating lovely dance moves. They were regarded then as Nigerian Michael Jackson. You still Remember Sinorita?’They’ve gone on to produce many hit tracks and cemented their names on Nigerian music’s hall of fame.

D’Banj: Why Me
Kokomaster D’Banj is another hit maker in Nigeria, “Why Me” “Tongolo” “Mobolowowon” were some of his earliest hits. These songs were popular then and they rocked nite clubs back in the days. D’banj and his producer back then, Don Jazzy built a large music dynasty for themselves before their split.

9ice: Gongo Aso
Abolore Akande a.ka. 9ice launched himself to Nigerian hiphop music scene with his traditional Yoruba Dialect narrowing his competition back then. Gongo Aso was a cornerstone of his career the song made 9ice an international artiste and he won many awards with it. 9ice has also gone on to record many evergreen songs with his signature Yoruba tunes.

  Mo’Hits was one of the best musical group in the early 2000s, the group consisted of Don Jazzy, D’Banj, The Prince, Dr. Sid, Wande Coal and kay Switch “Pere” was one of their biggest hit as “Booty Call” and “Ten Ten” also got fans dancing. Their split was not a blessing to Nigerian music.
Bigiano: Shayo

The whereabouts of the artiste might not be known know but “Shayo” was a street delight. The song was everywhere in those days even though it promoted heavy consumption of alcohol. Bigiano did justice to the song and it was popular.

AY.Com Ft Terry G – Pass Me Your Love
Another artiste that his whereabouts is not known is Ay.com, he dropped a big hit featuring Terry G “Pass Me Your love and left the scene. The song was big back in those days.
Eldee D Don: Bosi Gbangba

Trybe Records boss, Eldee D Don was one of the pioneers of Hiphop music in Nigeria, His hit track Bosi Gbangba was big back in the days and it will go down as one of the best hits out of Nigeria.
Wande Coal: Bumper To Bumper

Black Diamond boss, Wande Coal won fans with his lovely voice that made him their favourite. He hasn’t lost it though as he still dish out the sonorous voice in songs. Bumper to Bumper was one of the biggest hits the former Mo’hits act will be remembered for.
