A popular pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly obtaining N5.1m under false pretence.
makeitupnews reports that the 50-year-old clergyman, whose name was given as Oderinde Oluwatosin, is the pastor in charge of Chapel of Triumph Parish, Oworoshoki, Lagos State.

Oluwatosin, who was arrested by officials of the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, was arraigned on a four-count charge of stealing before Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.O. Aigbokhaevbo.
Supol Olakanmi Omisope, police prosecutor told the court in charge No E|32|2014 that the accused committed the offence between January and October, 2013 in Lagos.

According to him, the accused collected the sum of N4.5m from one Azumara Egonnaya and N900, 000 from Emeng Igbang to allegedly invest in oil business, with a promise to pay them back.

The prosecutor said the pastor refused to pay back the money after the complainants had given him on trust. He said all efforts by the complainants to get their money from the pastor proved abortive before they decided to report the matter to the police.

Omisope informed the court that the offences were contrary to sections 409,312 (3) and 278 (1) (a) (b) (2) of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Aigbokhaevbo granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two surties in like sum and adjourned the case to October 31, 2014 for mention.
He ordered the accused to be taken to Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, pending when he meets his bail conditions.
